What experience in your life led to you interested in food and cooking? 

My family led me to pursuing a career in cooking. My mother is from the south and my father is from Jamaica. They both were excellent cooks that not only taught me skills in the kitchen, but they also inspired me to cook.

Describe the moment when you decided that you wanted to pursue a career in the culinary field.

Oddly enough, I did not start out cooking. I began pursuing a career as a teacher and helped a friend out as a short order cook on a part-time basis. There was something about the kitchen that reminded me of home. I later decided that I wanted to prioritize cooking and make it a career.

What challenges have you faced – and what obstacles have you had to overcome – to pursue your career in the culinary field? 

I have always wanted to know more. This need for knowledge in the back of the house has led me to learn different techniques and styles of cooking. There have been times where I have felt that I have had to learn quickly to fit in. This allowed me to transform into a well-rounded cook.

How have friends and family reacted to your career choice?

My family and fares are very happy that I am doing something I love. They believe in me and I look forward to tasting new dishes.

What do you like most about working in a professional kitchen?

II think I love the learning aspect he most. I enjoy the knowledge from other chefs and soaking in as much information as I can from them. I look forward to trying new foods and always learning.

What’s your favorite comfort food?

This is easy, my favorite comfort foods are pizza, pop tarts and popcorn.

What is your favorite thing about working at Snapchef?

I appreciate traveling to new locations and I am always looking forward to establishing new relationships. This has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and become more extroverted.

What is your advice to those interested in pursuing a career in the culinary field?

My advice for anyone interested in the culinary field would be to always work hard and do your best. Cooking from the heart is always best, with love and care. If you have a passion for what you’re doing, then you will not only enjoy it, but you will always continue to grow.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of cooking?

I enjoy fashion, dancing, taking long walks, and spending time with my nieces.
