What experience in your life led to you interested in food and cooking?
I come from a large family with multicultural roots. I was always cooking even as a child. My family introduced me to different types of spices and herbs that I like to use in recipes on a daily basis.
Describe the moment when you decided that you wanted to pursue a career in the culinary field.
Having a family of my own geared me into cooking on a regular basis. It became a career choice five years ago. I love to cook, and I am always learning.
What challenges have you faced – and what obstacles have you had to overcome – to purse your career in the culinary field?
One huge challenge I faced was going to college later in life. This was difficult, but still attainable. I had to balance having a family, going to school, and working. I don’t regret it, but it is hard.
How have friends and family reacted to your career choice?
My family and friends are supportive, but not surprised that this is a career choice for me.
What do you like most about working in a professional kitchen?
The sense of family you get from working in a kitchen. I like the rush on a Friday night, and the challenge of keeping up with a busy pace.
What’s your favorite comfort food?
My all time favorite comfort food is soul food.
What is your favorite thing about working at Snapchef?
My favorite thing about working at Snapchef is the learning experience from on site learning to the apprentice program. I am grateful for all the opportunity’s Snapchef has provided for me. They have help me build and further my career.
What is your advice to those interested in pursuing a career in the culinary field?
Have tough skin and be ready for criticism. Chef’s are critical, but it’s for a good reason cooking is an Art form.
