What experience in your life led to you interested in food and cooking?

I would have to say my dad had a huge impact on my interest in the culinary field. He worked as a chef and inspired me to pursue a career in something that made me truly happy.

Describe the moment when you decided that you wanted to pursue a career in the culinary field.

Throughout my entire childhood, I would go to work with my dad on the weekends and help in the restaurant. He would have me prep recipes and make salads. I enjoyed spending time with him on busy Saturday nights and learning from all of the cooks there. I later decided to go to culinary school and turn my hobby into a career.

What challenges have you faced – and what obstacles have you had to overcome – to pursue your career in the culinary field?

I think the hardest part is finding balance in your life. Having a family and working long days can be very difficult.

How have friends and family reacted to your career choice?

My friends and family had mixed reviews about following my passions. Some of my family members thought that I should push towards being an athlete. Others were extremely happy for me.

What do you like most about working in a professional kitchen?

I like that no matter what, there is always something new to learn. Whether it be a technique or learning a new cooking style.

What’s your favorite comfort food?

My all-time favorite comfort food is seafood. I enjoy crab cakes and clam chowder. I have entered and won a few chowder contests in the past; some might say that’s my specialty.

What is your favorite thing about working at Snapchef?

I really like meeting new people and working in different kitchens.

What is your advice to those interested in pursuing a career in the culinary field?

My advice is to anyone looking to make cooking a full-time career is make sure you enjoy it first! Working long hours in the heat isn’t for everyone, but if you have a passion fir it you will never regret it.
